Requirements

  • VTS or RVT with Critical Care or Internal Medicine experience preferred.
  • Technical skills include advanced phlebotomy skills/jug catheters/central lines, feeding tube placement, urinary catheter placement, sedation and general anesthesia of animals ASA 3 and above, transfusion medicine, intensive care patient monitoring and treatment.
  • Independently initiate and carry out CPR.
  • Expert understanding of medical terminology and veterinary pharmacology.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide mentorship and leadership to other technicians.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a busy, stressful environment with diverse personalities while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with the state's Veterinary Practice Act.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
