The Certified Telehealth Specialist works in conjunction with remote technicians and Doctors to perform activities involving (but not limited to) patient care, pre-testing, being a chairside advocate during the remote exam and maintaining the doctor’s appointment schedule in a manner that delivers a professional and pleasurable patient experience. With Telehealth, this role is responsible for conducting pre-testing and specialized testing for tele-optometric exams utilizing Telehealth-related equipment and instruments. The Certified Telehealth Specialist (CTS) is a patient advocate. The CTS will guide the patient through the entire Telehealth exam experience, from pre-test, being chairside during the exam and handing the patient off to an optician to purchase materials The CTS will complete patient registration by gathering patient information, including Medical History and Ocular Health data The CTS will conduct pretesting and explain to the patient each step of the process, which instruments conduct which tests and why they are important The CTS must be comfortable engaging the patient in friendly conversation e.g., asking lifestyle questions, to uncover potential needs for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses, or any items the patient would like to make sure are covered by the Doctor The CTS will assist the Remote Technician and Remote Doctor when interacting with patients. The CTS will partner with the remote Doctor to help make appropriate lens recommendations using the lens and handoff tools After the exam, the CTS will escort the patient to the appropriate optician or technician, explaining the recommendations for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses made for the patient
