About The Position

Provide quality instruction based on the individual needs of every migrant high school student using Migrant summer school curriculum and Plato. Provide oral and written assessments to measure student mastery of Durable Skills development (pre-test and post-test or rubric required) Provide Migrant Summer School Administrator with student records, including daily attendance; grades, tests, etc. Teacher must attend training sessions as listed above

Requirements

  • Should have the ability to understand and accept the philosophy of the Bilingual Services Department in reference to the education of Migrant students and/or English Learners
  • Special experience in teaching: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies or Science (primarily physical sciences) to migrant students
  • Should have experience in incorporating new technologies into instruction, i.e., DGI Drones, Spheros, Fitbits, MakerBot 3D Printers, etc.
  • Highly proficient with assisting students on Plato
  • Must have the ability to facilitate a student-centered, project-based curriculum (must provide evidence)
  • Have recent EXCELLENT classroom management skills and proven ability to work with intermediate and secondary students.
  • Must have knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for EL students
  • Candidate must have a valid Indiana Teacher’s License and highly-qualified status for grade level and/or content area (9 - 12 grades)
  • Knowledge of second-language theory and practice and migratory culture
  • Recent utilization of WIDA standards and Model Performance Indicators in lesson planning
  • The position requires that staff must be present throughout the duration of the entire Summer Migrant Program.
  • Vacations must be taken prior to the start and end dates.
  • The position also requires a flexible scheduling of work responsibilities.

  • Preference given to teachers who have previous experience working with Migrant students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist high school students with credit accrual
  • Provide instruction with integration of technology (iPads, MacBook Pros, DGI Drones, Spheros, Fitbits, MakerBot 3D Printers, etc.)
  • Work in collaborative teams to provide practical support in reading, writing, listening, and speaking strategies for migrant students
  • Work collaboratively with MRSC and Bilingual Services Department staff
  • Supervise and provide direction for a classroom Instructional Resource Specialist in support of instruction
  • Provide differentiated instruction based on Indiana WIDA Standards and students’ academic needs
  • Attendance is required for in-service training sessions
