About The Position

The Surgical Technologist works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, delivering safe and effective care to patients during the intra-operative period. This role is crucial in providing technical care to surgical patients, particularly through the responsibilities of a scrub assistant. The Surgical Technologist is expected to effectively interact with patients of all ages and collaborate with healthcare team members while adhering to the standards of the surgical department. Key responsibilities include maintaining a sterile environment and practicing aseptic techniques, which involves ensuring appropriate sterile/unsterile boundaries during surgery, donning sterile gowns and gloves correctly, and verifying the integrity of sterile packages. The Surgical Technologist must also demonstrate proper selection of instrumentation based on the scheduled procedure, ensuring that all necessary instruments and supplies are available and prepared prior to the patient's arrival in the operating room. Additionally, the role requires the use of correct methods for cleaning and disinfecting various types of instruments, assisting with patient positioning while maintaining correct body alignment, and accurately performing surgical counts to prevent retained surgical items. The Surgical Technologist must communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding any immediate patient safety concerns and ensure that all protocols are followed meticulously to maintain patient safety and surgical efficiency.
