Assembly of supplies needed for surgical procedures specific to preference cards when necessary. Monitors and stock supplies to facilitate age specific patient care when necessary. Responsible for the decontaminating, assembly and processing of instrument sets to facilitate age specific patients when necessary. Under the supervision of the Manager and collaboration with clinical supervisor of Surgical Services is responsible for assigned shifts as schedule full time or part-time. Certification for Surgical Technologist required. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assesses, organizes, and maintains surgical supplies and inventory on a daily basis to facilitate age specific patient care when necessary. Assures all supplies are properly located according to bin location. Places all instruments and trays in proper location. Assists other support staff as needed. Runs errands to other departments as needed. Interacts with other departments as needed. Receives, inspects, assembles and sterilized instrument sets to facilitate age specific patient care when needed. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of principles of asepsis ensuring that proper techniques and practices are maintained, in providing age-specific patient care. Assist providers with preparing patient and throughout surgical procedure; including positioning patient; draping, providing exposure; maintaining and controlling homeostasis & suturing incisions, if needed. Scrubs, gowns and gloves self and physician for surgical procedures. Handles and passes instruments correctly and insures their proper functionality and storage. Insures correct sponge, needle and instrument counts. Insures proper handling of all lab and tissue specimens according to established protocol. Assumes responsibility for proper handling of supplies / equipment. Ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste. Demonstrates thorough knowledge and assist with operating surgical equipment. Assists with table and room clean up following procedure, and prepares room for the next procedure within scheduled allocated times. Assists Surgeon / Other Medical Provider in the operating room, Emergency Room, ICU and office in performing exams and urgent Access to medications. Responds and communicates well with co-workers and other departments. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed. Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the organization. Performs preceptor duties to new employees and students to provide needed guidance during orientation. Employee takes on call shifts on a rotating basis of days, weekends and holidays and is subject to call back and overtime as required by the department.
