About The Position

Connecticut Orthopaedics is looking for a full-time Certified Surgical Technologist to join our exceptional care team in our Surgical Center. The role involves assisting the surgeon by providing and controlling the sterile instrumentation, supplies, and equipment required during surgical procedures at the Center, as well as assisting in all aspects of care and maintenance of instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and the Operating Room itself.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a Surgical Technologist training program. Certification required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support preferred.
  • Evidence of continuing education preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year Surgical Tech experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively to patients, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Assist co-workers, anesthesia, physicians, and patients as necessary.
  • Assist in the orientation and supervision of new employees.
  • Assist RN to set up equipment and open sterile supplies to prepare for each operative procedure.
  • Assist surgeons during procedure according to prescribed standards. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
  • Set up table, instrumentation, and supplies according to the type of surgical procedure.
  • Maintain correct count of sponges and sharps according to standards and Center policy.
  • Maintain aseptic technique at all times according to standards and Center policy.
  • Assist in application of dressings, casts, and in moving patients according to standards and Center policy.
  • Decontaminate all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies according to standards and Center policy.
  • Compile and make available all necessary supplies and equipment needed for procedures.
  • Help clean and maintain room, equipment, and furniture according to standards and Center policy.
  • Utilize supplies, equipment, and resources to contain cost without compromising delivery of care.
  • Reduce chances of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices.
  • Gain knowledge of all equipment and supplies and be familiar with their location, especially emergency drugs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in inventory, storage, and retrieval of supplies and equipment.
  • Help clean and maintain rooms, equipment, and furniture according to standards and Center policy.
  • Assist with emergency procedures as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and Center’s communications and documents.
  • Communicate a positive and caring attitude toward patients, peers, staff, physicians, and all other contacts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Surgical Services.
