The Certified Surgical Technician implements and communicates the age-specific plan of care, providing thorough reports at shift changes. This role involves coordinating with team members for special equipment and supplies, and ensuring care aligns with established policies. Key responsibilities include participating in operating room setup and breakdown, connecting necessary equipment like suction and electrocautery, and maintaining adequate stock for patient care. The technician is crucial in monitoring infection control and sterilization standards, establishing and maintaining a sterile field, and ensuring aseptic technique among the surgical team. They are responsible for decontaminating instruments, assisting with processing and sterilization, and managing waste disposal. The position requires performing sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN, taking corrective action for discrepancies, and ensuring the safe use and proper functioning of all equipment. The technician also "second assists" the surgeon as needed, anticipating and securing surgical supplies, holding retractors, and assisting with patient care procedures such as specimen labeling and surgical skin prep. Related duties are performed as assigned, adhering to ADA Essential Functions.
