About The Position

We are seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist III (CST III), sometimes referred to as a Surgical Tech III, OR Tech III or Scrub Tech III. The Certified Surgical Technologist III (CST III) serves as an advanced surgical team member responsible for supporting highly complex surgical procedures, ensuring optimal operating room efficiency, and serving as a clinical resource for surgical staff. The CST III leads advanced case preparation, assists surgeons by maintaining a sterile field and anticipating procedural needs, mentors’ surgical technologists, and promotes best practices in patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance. The Certified Scrub Tech III (CST III) leads sterile preparation and serves as the primary scrub for complex surgical cases, using advanced skills to support surgeons and drive safe, efficient OR performance.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Certified Surgical Tech (CST) training program.
  • One year of experience in a surgical setting required.
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Certification upon hire required and maintained for employment. Per Texas statutes, non-certified employees hired prior to 12/2014 are exempt from this requirement.
  • Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.
  • Demonstrated competency and proficiency as CST II and primary scrub in open heart surgery or complex orthopedic procedures to include but not limited to fractures due to trauma, complex spinal fusion, robotics, or bariatrics.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced Clinical Leadership – Serve as a lead surgical technologist for complex and specialty procedures, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to surgical staff while modeling best practices in sterile technique and patient safety
  • Complex Case Preparation – Coordinate and prepare operating rooms for highly specialized procedures, ensuring availability of advanced instrumentation, implants, and equipment while anticipating surgeon preferences and procedural needs
  • Intraoperative Expertise – Provide advanced intraoperative support by passing instruments, maintaining sterile technique, anticipating next steps, and troubleshooting equipment or supply issues to support optimal surgical outcomes
  • Instrument and Implant Management – Ensure accurate counts of sponges, needles, instruments, and implants while supporting implant documentation, specimen handling, and case tracking in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Education and Mentorship – Support onboarding and training of new surgical technologists, assist with competency development, and serve as a resource for clinical questions, specialty techniques, and equipment use
