For more information, visit www.eyecare-partners.com. The Surgical Technician will assist in surgical operations under the supervision of Surgeons, Registered Nurses, and Surgical Assistants. This role involves organizing and managing the daily function of the operating room in accordance with established standards and company policies, ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience preferred.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of certification.
  • Scrub all types of cases performed at the company.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and have equipment, medical gases, and supplies readily available for all procedures.
  • Adhere to work schedule, manage time effectively, and maintain organization.
  • Participate in continuing education/in-service training, staff meetings, and Q.A.P.I. program.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff when needed.
  • Open all sterile packs according to sterile technique and prepare instruments as needed.
  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and ensuring equipment works properly.
  • Gather supplies and equipment in the room.
  • Maintain records on medication used intra-operatively, specimens retrieved, and other relevant details.
  • Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgical assistants.
  • Hold retractors, cut suture, and help count sponges, needles, or blades if applicable.
  • Prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Operate sterilizer, lights, suction, and other operating room equipment.
  • Assist in patient transfer to PACU if needed.
  • Help clean and restock the operating room.
  • Assist with any technical function under supervision to ensure a safe operation.
  • Prep, drape, and position the patient for surgery.
  • Prepare for cases according to the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Gather supplies needed and anticipate needs for cases.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity to handle instruments.
  • Maintain emotional stability to handle the OR environment.
