About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) position is a full-time role located at Texas Health Allen, with work hours from Monday to Friday, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, including on-call requirements. Texas Health Allen features 7 Operating Suites, 1 GI, and 1 Cysto, providing a range of specialty service lines including XI robotic procedures in General, Urology & GYN, Open General, and GYN procedures, as well as Orthopedics specializing in MAKO joint replacements, Sports Medicine, and Plastic Surgery. The department is fast-paced and high-volume, averaging a significant number of procedures. The professional nurse exhibits an understanding of basic human needs and demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient affiliations.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009 required OR
  • Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program, Vocational Nurse Program, or completion of a military training program in surgical technology upon hire required OR
  • Robot, Ortho, Spine, and Vascular experience strongly preferred.
  • 1 year of current operating room experience preferred.
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist graduate of an accredited surgical tech program Upon Hire Required OR
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009 Upon Hire Required OR
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology Upon Hire Required OR
  • LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse Upon Hire Required.
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Upon Hire Required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing peri-operative care for a patient population that includes Infants, Pediatrics, Adults, and Geriatrics.
  • Preoperatively assist R.N. circulator in formulating plan of care.
  • Coordinate patient care peri-operatively and assume responsibility and accountability for behavior to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Post-operatively follow proper procedures for care of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist RN circulator with post-operative duties under supervision.
  • Deliver nursing care in a manner that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection and accidental contamination.
  • Deliver care in a manner which protects the patient from injury.
