About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist 4 is a vital member of the surgical team, working under the supervision of a licensed professional while taking on advanced leadership responsibilities in patient care. As an expert practitioner, the Certified Surgical Technologist 4 performs complex tasks in the perioperative setting, ensuring a sterile environment, equipment functionality, and supporting both invasive and non-invasive procedures to optimize patient safety. This role requires in-depth knowledge of aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical tools, and advanced surgical practices, all executed in alignment with the mission and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Surgical Technology Program or Military Surgical Technology Program required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) from National Center for Competency Testing required.
  • External candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of surgical experience, with demonstrated advanced proficiency in ten (10) or more surgical specialties.
  • Internal team members may qualify with a minimum of three (3) years of surgical experience, provided they have demonstrated required competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Chairs department or hospital committees, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Supports fiscal responsibility of the department through ordering of equipment, and supplies, and ensuring staffing needs are met.
  • Gather, check, and open supplies & equipment needed for procedure.
  • Set up sterile instruments, supplies, and medications/solutions.
  • Assist team members with gowning, gloving, and draping the patient.
  • Establish the sterile field and secure tubing, cords, and accessories.
  • Participate in surgical site and patient verification during the time-out procedure.
  • Prepare and anticipate additional instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain sterile technique and perform necessary counts.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
