Certified Surgical Technologist 1st Assist - Cardiovascular Surgery (Open Heart)
About The Position
SUMMARY: This position is filled by a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist who, as a result of educational and clinical experience in surgical technology, possesses the knowledge and technical skills necessary to assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May assist in room set up and positioning patient. May assist surgeon in incision, exposure, clamping, coagulation, packing, placing drains, cannulation/decannulation and suturing. Responsible and accountable for direct patient care for assigned patients in the perioperative unit. Must be proficient in a wide variety of high level surgical technologist first assist skills. Responsible for adhering to all standards of perioperative care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own and energize the vision, mission, values and standards of the hospital. Functions as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, repair of pathology, and wound closure throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted.
Requirements
- Graduated of certified surgical technology school.
- Completion of accredited First Assist course.
- One year of CST or CSTFA surgical experience preferred.
- Current Surgical Technologist certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists.
- BLS required.
