About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical procedures. This position works closely with surgeons, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure all instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly prepared, accounted for, and maintained throughout the procedure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 months of on-the-job experience in a surgical or healthcare setting required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent teamwork, attention to detail, and commitment to patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the surgical operating suite with appropriate drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Verify functionality and readiness of all surgical instruments and equipment before use.
  • Assist with patient preparation, positioning, and draping under the direction of the surgical team.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, sponges, and supplies during procedures.
  • Maintain accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and other materials throughout the surgery.
  • Handle and label specimens properly for delivery to the laboratory.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with hospital policies and infection control standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives as requested.
