About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technician/CST for Labor & Delivery at Texas Health Rockwall is a PRN position requiring rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. The role involves attending training at the corporate office in Arlington for the first 1-5 days of hire. The Labor & Delivery Department emphasizes a supportive team environment and a strong shared governance structure that empowers nurses to shape their work environment. The department is equipped with new and advanced technology to enhance patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009 required or
  • Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program, Vocational Nurse Program or graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology required upon hire.
  • 1 year of operating room experience preferred.
  • Labor & Delivery or Surgery experience strongly preferred.
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist graduate of an accredited surgical tech program required upon hire or
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009 required upon hire or
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist graduate/completion of a military training program in surgical technology 2 years required or
  • LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse required upon hire and
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support required prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
  • A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, acceptable grooming practices and ability to function in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Labor & Delivery or Surgery is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Intra-operatively displays skills and behavior conducive to desirable outcomes.
  • Assists in providing peri-operative care for a patient population that includes Infants, Pediatrics, Adults, and Geriatrics.
  • Preoperatively assists RN circulator in formulating plan of care.
  • Assists as needed in coordinating patient care peri-operatively and assumes responsibility and accountability for behavior to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Follows proper procedures for care of instruments, supplies, and equipment post-operatively.
  • Assists RN circulator with post-operative duties under supervision.
  • Delivers nursing care in a manner that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection and accidental contamination.
  • Delivers care in a manner which protects the patient from injury.
