About The Position

Vanderbilt Health is expanding and welcoming its newest hospital, Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital! The Certified Surgical Technologist is an unlicensed member of the surgical team who scrubs and/or assists during surgical procedures. This position functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Certified Surgical Technologist provides direct and indirect patient care, for patients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric by assisting in the preparation of the patient and environment for the performance of surgical procedures. It is the Certified Surgical Technologist's responsibility to know the Surgeon's routine and preferences. -Join the OR Team at Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital- Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital is a 270‑bed community hospital within the Vanderbilt Health system, serving Clarksville and the surrounding region. Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during the applicant's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
  • Experience: Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Certification: Certification from one of the listed issuers: NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants Certified Surgical Technologist or NCCT – TS-C – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech In Surgery. Exception: If graduate of surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates patient care, by assisting the surgeon before, during and after surgical procedures.
  • Plans, sets up, performs, and cleans up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and as a scrub tech.
  • Performs sharp, sponge and instrument counts according to policy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to apply the Principles of Asepsis in creating and maintaining the sterile field.
