Baptist Health Medical Group Certified Surgical Tech Surgical Assist Pool St. Matthews area Part Time/PRN Essential Duties: Assists in transferring / positioning patients under direct supervision Assists with room turnover Obtains necessary equipment and positioning supplies needed for cases Assures all scheduled and emergent cases have complete case carts Maintains communication with operating room staff, clinical coordinators, control desk charge nurse and manager Assists with orientation of new personnel and students as requested Resource for other team members through orientating, mentoring, and coaching Maintains aseptic technique while opening supplies and during surgical case Functions as a scrubbed (clean and sterile gown) member of the patient care team Demonstrates aseptic technique while tying, snapping surgical gowns and movement in OR suite Assists with the preparation of preoperative site and patient draping Performs activities required during the operation (e.g. handling of instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, drains, dressing, etc.) under direct supervision of surgeon Observes for and corrects breaks in aseptic technique Handling specimens Makes appropriate decisions utilizing evidence-based practice and demonstrates critical thinking skills Assist is retraction of tissue and organs Assists the physician, within scope of practice, during procedures as necessary Transferring and irrigating with fluids Transferring but not administering drugs within the sterile field Assist in sponging or suctioning operative site Preparing or cutting suture material Performs skin closure under the direct supervision of the surgeon Applies dressing If you would like to be part of a growing family focused on supporting clinical excellence, teamwork and innovation, we urge you to apply now!
