About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologists is an allied health professional, who is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. The Certified Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The Certified Surgical Technologist shall possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Requirements

  • 3 Years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist Preferred, or equivalent Military training.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist and/or demonstrated competency in two (2) or more specialty areas.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist Required.

Responsibilities

  • Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
  • Understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
  • Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintains the sterile field.
  • Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments.
  • Follows proper Standard Precautions in decontamination and sterilization areas.
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solution for quality and consistency.
  • Sorts mismatched sets of instruments and makes them available to sterile processing customers.
  • Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels.
  • Verifies that equipment functions properly and requisitions for maintenance or repair.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Assists with maintaining departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement.
  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation.
  • Helps in draping sterile field.
  • Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure.
  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
  • Prepares sterile dressings.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assists with terminal cleaning of room.
  • Assists in prepping room for the next patient.
  • Answers clinical and technical questions about the da Vinci surgical system.
  • Plans for sustainable growth of the robotics program.
  • Serves as main point of contact for robotic surgeries.
  • Coordinates and attends robotic Steering Committees.
  • Works to configure the operating room for da Vinci surgical system use.
  • Orders da Vinci surgical instruments and accessories as needed.
  • Maintains lean par levels of da Vinci surgical instruments.
  • Creates a metric tracking system for robotic cases.
  • Determines where to create trays based on instrument utilization data.
  • Works with surgeons and nursing staff to lean out preference cards.
  • Ensures operating rooms for robotic-assisted cases are properly staffed.
  • Establishes a training pathway for new hires in robotic-assisted procedures.
  • Establishes clinical competencies for staff involved in robotic-assisted procedures.
  • Educates OR staff on updates or new products for robotic-assisted procedures.
  • Troubleshoots issues with the da Vinci surgical system during procedures.
  • Initiates RMA process for damaged instruments and scopes.
  • Assists as scrub nurse or First Assist during robotic-assisted procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining, updating, and collecting the daily wrap-up sheet.
  • Responsible for storing da Vinci surgical system documentation.
