Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited educational program for surgical technologists with a Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Certification and meets the AB No. 347; 79th Session (2017) required.
  • For path 1: Lead in select service line(s). Acts as coordinator between surgeon and hospital; interfaces with vendors, SPD, Supply Chain to ensure equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and working for cases; responsible for ordering supplies needed; responsible for updating preference cards; performs as preceptor. For path 2: Experience and Mastery, in scrubbing minor and major procedures in the generalized surgical specialties, (General, Urology, Vascular, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery/Neurospine, and Cardiac Surgery.
  • Must be a resource expert in at least two of these specialties.
  • Experience in scrubbing in the specialty surgical areas.
  • Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.

Responsibilities

  • The Certified Surgical Technologist III is responsible for the preparation of sterile supplies and instruments for each assigned procedure, maintaining sterile field during case and providing surgeon with sterile supplies and instruments during assigned procedures.
  • There are two paths to the Certified Surgical Technologist III. The Certified Surgical Technologist III is (1) an employee who is the lead in a service line(s) or (2) an employee who is proficient in advanced cases in the following surgical specialties: General Surgery, Urology, Vascular, GYN, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery/Neurospine, and Cardiac Surgery and considered a resource expert in at least two of those specialties.
  • For applicable cases, the Certified Surgical Technologist III is proficient in performing cases laparoscopically, open, or robotically assisted.
  • The Certified Surgical Technologist III can assume the role of camera holder, retractor holder, limb holder, or uterine manipulator on more complicated cases
  • The employee will demonstrate independent practice in the role of primary scrub technician and hold a current CST to be considered for The Certified Surgical Technologist III.
