About The Position

Sibley Memorial Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, has a distinguished history of serving the community since its founding in 1890. As a not-for-profit and full-service community hospital, Sibley offers medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetric, oncology, orthopedic and skilled nursing inpatient services, as well as a 24-hour Emergency Department. Requirements

• Clinical Education and Training specific to performing duties as a Certified Surgical Assistant, C-SA or Certified Surgical First Assistant, C-SFA
• Graduated from a program approved by the Commission for the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or completed a dedicated training program for Surgical Assistants in the armed forces
• Demonstrated fulltime work in the United States under the direct supervision of a physician licensed in the United States with at least 1300 hours of performance as a Surgical Assistant within the 3 years preceding the date of application
• Successful completion of the National Surgical Assistant Association's (NSAA's) exam or National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting exam
• Provide documentation of certification or recertification by the National Surgical Assistant Association, National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or The American Board of Surgical Assistants
• Complete appropriate continuing medical education to maintain certification
• Maintenance of licensure with the District of Columbia, to be renewed every 2 years, including proof of completion of fifty (50) hours of CEU credit during the two-year period preceding the date of license expiration
• BLS required; to be renewed every 2 years
• At least one year as a practicing Surgical Assistant
