About The Position

As a Surgery First Assist Labor Delivery with Henrico Doctors Hospital, you will be a part of an organization that is devoted to giving back to the community. The Certified Surgical Assist will serve as a professional member of the Operating Room team, utilizing principles of aseptic technique to create and maintain a sterile field, plan and provide equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs, and demonstrate competency in assisting the surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care. You will also serve as a resource person for other staff members, promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care, participate in on-call assignments, and demonstrate flexibility to cover staffing as needed. Additionally, you will provide a safe environment for the surgical patient during their preoperative experience and demonstrate competency in providing patient/family education.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved CORT program, or RN, or LPN, or Certified Surgical Assistant Program (required).
• Certification in training as a Surgical Assistant or RNFA Certification (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required).
• Minimum of three years operating room scrubbing experience (required).
• One year of experience as a surgical assistant (preferred).
• Possess the ability to work 3, 12 hour DAY SHIFT hours, 7a - 7p, Mon - Fri and rotating weekends.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate competency in assisting the surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care.
• Serve as a resource person for other staff members.

• Participate in on-call assignments and demonstrate flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
• Perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• Provide a safe environment for the surgical patient during their preoperative experience.
• Demonstrate competency in providing patient/family education.
