About The Position

The Certified Sterile Processing Technician works under the indirect supervision of the Resource Technician, performing daily activities within the Sterile Processing Department. This role encompasses all aspects of decontamination, assembly of surgical sets, sterilization processes, and restocking of specialty carts such as CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts, and other specialty carts. The technician is expected to perform these functions with strict adherence to established procedures and to interact professionally with other departments throughout the healthcare system. A Central Sterile Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) must possess comprehensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation, including identification, cleaning, inspection, testing, packaging, and sterilization. This also includes proficiency in operating mechanical equipment used for instrument cleaning and sterilization, understanding infection control practices and preventative measures, and familiarity with regulatory agencies governing sterile processing practices. Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT)
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation in regards to identification, cleaning, inspecting, testing, packaging and sterilization
  • Knowledge of operation of mechanical equipment for instrument cleaning and sterilization
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and preventative measures
  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies that govern sterile processing practices

Responsibilities

  • Performing daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department, which include all aspects of the decontamination, assembly of sets, sterilization processes, and specialty cart restocking (CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts and Specialty carts)
  • Ensuring functions are performed with conscious regard to the procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system
