About The Position

The Certified Sterile Processing Technician at Banner Surgery Center-Desert Vista is responsible for the proper care and handling of surgical instruments, ensuring they are cleaned, decontaminated, assembled, packaged, and sterilized according to established protocols. This role is essential in maintaining a safe and efficient operating environment, supporting the surgical team, and providing excellent service to patients and physicians. The position offers a supportive work culture with a focus on teamwork and integrity, and it operates Monday through Friday with no holiday shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current national certification as a SPD Technician, Certified Registered Central Service Technician, or Surgical Instrument Processor.
  • Relevant experience with sterilizing instruments qualifying for national certification exam or certified registration.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate, and reassemble.
  • Effective organizational, communication, and human relation skills.

  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminates, assembles, and packages all instruments following established protocols.
  • Performs necessary repairs, reassembles, and stores specialized surgical instruments.
  • Prepares order requests for replacement parts and additional equipment as necessary.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices.
  • Identifies instruments for all specialties and assures proper function.
  • Follows protocol for repair or replacement of non-functioning instruments.
  • Assembles and packages instrumentation and sets according to department protocol.
  • Utilizes equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and hospital policy.
  • Operates steam autoclaves, ETO, and Gas Plasma sterilizers.
  • Maintains appropriate logs and records relating to the sterilization process.
  • Responds to problem calls from the Operating Room and performs preliminary investigations.
  • Determines priority level of instrumentation and equipment requests.
  • Directs services in a competent and professional manner while assuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner.
