Fills OR case carts and maintains OR supply inventory. Cleans, disinfects and maintains reusable patient care equipment for the nursing unit.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
• Must have strong background knowledge of surgical and procedural environments and governing practice standards including the need for excellent personal hygiene to reduce the risk of work product contamination.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate verbal and written proficiencies to utilize written high level disinfection/sterilization guidelines and manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU’s).
• Must demonstrate ability to independently plan, organize, and set priorities in routine and/or emergency situations.
• Must be physically capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighing in excess of 200 pounds.
• Must possess visual/oral acuity along with manual dexterity and technical ability.

Nice To Haves

• Three (3) months of sterilization equipment and procedures experience

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate operation of sterilization equipment. Cleaning, sterilization and distribution of instruments and hard goods used in operating room and other user areas of the hospital.
• Maintain department in clean and sterile condition.
• Check inventory and discard expired items that cannot be re-sterilized.
• Properly sterilize and package all reusable items.
• Collects soiled instrumentation and equipment to be reprocessed.
• Take telephone orders from user department for supply replenishment and record, fill and distribute orders to proper department.
• Fills case cart requisitions for surgery department.
• Order specialty equipment from vendors.
