About The Position

The Sterile Processing Department within the health care facility is responsible for the delivery of medical surgical instruments that have been properly processed by decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and issued for patient use. The Certified Sterile Processing Technician has chosen and accomplished certification in Sterile Processing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be certified as a sterile processing technician.
  • Ability to perform physical and visual aspects of the job.
  • Ability to read and write legibly with spelling accuracy and have good mathematical skills.
  • Basic medical terminology and knowledge of the human body.
  • Dependable, honest, and shows integrity in all aspects of the job.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Pleasant professional demeanor when dealing with customers and coworkers.
  • Requires the ability to speak with others with pride, voice control, and confidence using correct English and well-modulated voice.

Responsibilities

  • Capable of completing all assigned tasks in an efficient and competent manner, seeking assistance as needed.
  • Rotates to decontamination, instrument room, and the sterilization areas with the ability to operate all equipment, observing safety and security procedures.
  • Completes all necessary documentation accurately and monitors own work to ensure a quality product for our customers.
  • Accepts responsibility for reported errors and makes improvements to work practices to alleviate the error.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development staying abreast of new developments in the field of Sterile Processing.
  • Complies with changes needed to stay current with regulations and recommended practices.
  • Actively participates in process improvement initiatives to improve quality for services provided.
  • Assists with training new employees.
  • Makes independent decisions in the absence of the manager using sound judgment and following department policy and procedures.
  • Contributes to a positive team spirit by maintaining a positive and courteous attitude toward all coworkers and our customers.
  • Utilizes instrument management system and completes documentation with accuracy.
  • Accepts constructive criticism and feedback with emotional maturity.
  • Adheres to hospital's infection control and prevention policies.
  • Maintains attendance requirements and punctuality.
  • Completes daily and weekly departmental cleaning assignments.
  • Performs under stress in daily assignments, adapts to frequent change in the work environment, and maintains adequate functionality in emergency situations.
  • Monitors technical aspects of sterilization and reports unacceptable findings to the manager.
  • Participates in hospital sponsored net learning.
  • Shows initiative in learning new procedures and accomplishes procedure with accuracy in a timely manner.
  • Plans and arranges own work to accomplish definite objectives.
