About The Position

The Certified Special Education Life Skills Teacher will work under the general supervision of the School Principal to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living. The teacher will implement district-approved curriculum, document teaching and student progress, address students' specific needs, and provide a safe and optimal learning environment.

Requirements

  • State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

  • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, and methods.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
  • Participate in PPTs and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Assist students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions as needed.
  • Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
  • Serve as a resource to students and parents to provide counseling for personal growth and behavioral management.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, and research.
  • Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping and provide student information as required.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication.
  • Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training.
