You must have a broad knowledge of the pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system and the complex procedures required to properly diagnose and treat patients, from the very young to the very old. Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program
  • Current Respiratory Therapist license from the State Board for Respiratory Care
  • NBRC CRT certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • NRP within 6 months of hire
  • One year of recent clinical experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physician
  • Administer medical gas and aerosol therapy
  • Obtain and analyze blood specimens
  • Perform patient testing
  • Operate and maintain various types of respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment
  • Provide mechanical ventilation and maintain artificial airways
  • Assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Provide patient education
  • Monitor equipment and patient response to therapy
  • Complete documentation of in-patient and departmental records
  • Clean equipment and maintain safety and infection control practices
