Requirements

  • Technical School Diploma in respiratory therapy
  • 1 year of clinical experience.
  • Ability to recognize and detect technical equipment malfunction.
  • Ability to maintain records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skill in treating a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to remain patient and calm in stressful situations.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • CRT - Certified Respiratory Therapist NBRC - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Performs various therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures such as delivering aerosolized medications, MDI’s, postural drainage with percussion, sputum induction’s and incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, and bedside pulmonary function screenings.
  • Repairs respiratory equipment or reports and delivers malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor as soon as a faulty piece of equipment is identified.
  • Provides respiratory care involving the application of well-defined therapeutic techniques under the supervision of a respiratory therapist and a physician.
  • Responds to cardiac/respiratory arrest throughout the hospital and initiates emergency oxygen therapy and ventilation appropriate for any given situation.
  • Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Reviews patient charts and obtains order for oxygen therapy.
  • Reviews patient chart prior to initiating and providing therapy to verify pertinent information including medication, dose, and frequency.
