About The Position

To identify, through formal and informal evaluation, students whose ability to function within the classroom and school setting is hampered by physical and/or sensory deficits, and to provide direct, indirect, or consultative services to enable students to benefit from education.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed or certificated as a registered Occupational Therapist in Arizona and by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in occupational therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Screen and evaluate students’ physical, perceptual motor and sensorimotor, developmental, and self-help functioning skills based on formal and informal evaluation.
  • Develop occupational therapy objectives and activities that can be implemented by family members, teachers, and assistants.
  • Develop schedules and provide therapy for students who have deficits in physical, perceptual motor, and/or sensorimotor functions.
  • Orient and/or train family members, teachers, and assistants in specific occupational therapy techniques utilized for students in the classroom.
  • Identify students’ needs for adaptive equipment and/or prosthetic devices.
  • Instruct students, families, and school staff members in the use of special equipment and/or prosthetic devices.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students entering or continuing in special education programs.
  • Determine occupational therapy equipment and supply needs, make purchase requests for equipment and supplies as appropriate, and maintain inventory of occupational therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Evaluate individual student progress in therapy programs on a regular basis, communicating findings to teachers, parents, and others involved through direct consultation or written reports.
  • Complete mid-year, end-of-year, and other reports formally requested by the Coordinator for Special Eduation and Compliance.
  • Maintain awareness of current advancements/developments in the profession through attendance at professional conferences, workshops, and inservice training programs.
  • Share knowledge gained with occupational therapy and special education staff members as appropriate.
  • Maintain records and bill for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
  • Continue to grow professionally through appropriate staff development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
