About The Position

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice nurse responsible for administering anesthesia care and ensuring patient safety during surgical procedures. This role requires a master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia and involves direct patient care, educational responsibilities, and participation in research activities. CRNAs operate independently and are accountable for their practice, making critical decisions regarding anesthesia management and patient care.

Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from an accredited program.
  • Active, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a CNA or equivalent.
  • Full and current certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a pre-anesthetic patient assessment based on patient interview, history, lab results, and type of surgical procedure.
  • Select and administer pre-anesthetic medication according to established protocol.
  • Request and evaluate pertinent laboratory studies and pulmonary function studies under established protocol.
  • Insert intravenous catheters and perform endotracheal intubation and extubation.
  • Select and administer anesthetic techniques appropriate to the patient's condition and procedure within established protocols.
  • Manage fluid, blood, and electrolyte therapy within a medical care plan.
  • Examine patients in post-anesthesia recovery to assess reactions to anesthetic management.
  • Identify complications or abnormal responses to anesthesia and implement management techniques.
  • Assist in the treatment and management of emergency airway problems throughout the hospital.
  • Provide anesthetic consultation to physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff.
