Requirements

  • Registered nurse who has completed a formal program in nurse anesthesia.
  • Doctoral (DNP, DNAP, DrAP, PhD) degree is required.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license required for CAH sites upon hire and within one year for non-CAH sites.
  • Certified/recertified (CRNA) by the National Board on the Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetist (NBCRNA) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for those working consistently with OB patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical anesthesia duties and take appropriate responsibility for direct patient care and for on-call as assigned.
  • Prioritize anesthetic decisions and administer anesthetic agents under department protocols and guidelines.
  • Communicate patient status to healthcare team members.
  • Facilitate staff coverage, assignments, and breaks as needed for anesthesia providers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the lifespan.
  • Assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrate leadership through involvement on committees and/or team projects, education, and research.
  • Actively seek to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in professional organizations and community activity.
  • Respond to emergency airway or code situations as required.
