About The Position

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami is responsible for preparing and administering anesthetics for medical and surgical procedures. This role involves collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other medical professionals to ensure patient safety and comfort before, during, and after anesthesia administration. The CRNA will also conduct patient assessments, manage anesthesia care plans, and respond to emergency situations as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia Program (CRNA).
  • Valid Florida CRNA License, BLS/ACLS/PALS certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare prescribed solutions and administer anesthetic following specified methods and procedures.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures.
  • Provide care for a patient before, during, and after a medical procedure or surgery by performing a patient assessment and preparing the patient for anesthesia.
  • Administer and maintain anesthesia to ensure proper sedation and pain management.
  • Oversee the patient's recovery from anesthesia and care for the patient's immediate post-operative needs.
  • Perform pre-operative assessment of surgical patients and administer anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist.
  • Conduct pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and document anesthesia notes on patient records.
  • Review medical history, evaluate patients, and determine proper methods of anesthesia.
  • Perform or evaluate diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Measure and monitor the level and speed at which anesthesia is administered.
  • Monitor patient vital signs to ensure safety and inform physician of patient's condition during anesthesia.
  • Manage patients' airway or pulmonary status using techniques such as endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management and administering fluids or drugs.
  • Develop anesthesia care plans.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.
