About the position

The University of Miami/UHealth - Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Department of Anesthesiology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). The CRNA works in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other physicians and medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. They provide care for a patient before, during, and after a medical procedure or surgery by performing a patient assessment, preparing the patient for anesthesia, and administering and maintaining the anesthesia to ensure proper sedation and pain management. The CRNA oversees the patient's recovery from anesthesia and cares for the patient's immediate post-operative needs. They are responsible for pre-operative assessment of the surgical patients and administering anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist. The role includes performing pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and documenting anesthesia notes on patient records, reviewing medical history, evaluating patients, and determining proper methods of anesthesia. The CRNA also performs or evaluates diagnostic tests, measures and monitors the level and speed at which anesthesia is administered, and monitors patient vital signs to ensure safety. They manage patients' airway or pulmonary status using various techniques and respond to emergency situations by providing airway management and administering fluids or drugs. Additionally, the CRNA develops anesthesia care plans and adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews medical history, evaluates patients, and determines proper methods of anesthesia.
  • Performs or evaluates diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Measures and monitors the level and speed at which anesthesia is administered.
  • Monitors patient vital signs to ensure safety.
  • Informs physician of patient's condition during anesthesia.
  • Manages patients' airway or pulmonary status using various techniques.
  • Prepares prescribed solutions and administers local, intravenous, spinal, or other anesthetics.
  • Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management and administering fluids or drugs.
  • Develops anesthesia care plans.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree and a graduate from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia Program (CRNA).
  • Valid Florida CRNA License, BLS/ACLS/PALS required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred.
