About The Position

Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist Under the supervision of a licensed physician, the NCS technician performs nerve conduction studies to measure the speed and strength of electrical signals in a patient's nerves. The technician is responsible for patient preparation, equipment operation, and accurate data collection for physician interpretation. Hours: Tuesday - Friday 8am-12pm

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a neurodiagnostic technology program is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T.) or Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT), are highly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification required.
  • Experience working in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Proficiency in nerve conduction study procedures and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail for precise data collection and analysis.
  • Possess pleasant and effective written, verbal, and telephone communication skills
  • Ability to learn new neurodiagnostic skills and procedures.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff
  • Must be capable of handling multiple tasks effectively and able to maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and understanding for the patient and caring parties
  • Requires standing or sitting up to eight hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift/carry/move 15 pounds of equipment.
  • Occasional stress from dealing with many staff and patients.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job

Responsibilities

  • Review the patient's medical history, orders, and special needs before testing.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient and address any questions or concerns to ensure their cooperation and comfort.
  • Properly prepare the patient for the procedure, which may include cleaning the skin and applying electrodes to the correct anatomical locations.
  • Monitor the patient's vital signs and overall well-being throughout the test.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate neurodiagnostic equipment, such as NCS and electromyography (EMG) machines.
  • Perform prescribed nerve conduction studies, including stimulating nerves and recording the resulting electrical responses.
  • Conduct motor and sensory nerve conductions, F-wave measurements, and other related tests.
  • Ensure accurate and high-quality data is collected by recognizing and eliminating physiological and non-physiological artifacts.
  • Document test results and patient responses in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Summarize technical findings for review and interpretation by the supervising physician.
  • Ensure all necessary patient records and documentation are maintained with strict adherence to patient privacy and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain and clean neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure reliable and accurate results.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and perform minor equipment repairs as needed.
  • Manage inventory of testing supplies, including electrodes, needles, and other materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in testing rooms.
