About The Position

Monroe Community Mental Health Authority is a community based mental health service organization dedicated to consumers living in Monroe County. We provide individual health services for people with any type of behavioral health concerns such as substance abuse, emotional issues, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our mission is to enrich lives and promote wellness. We live out that mission by being an inviting resource that offers in-house, referral, and emergency services, as well as support within the community for those in need. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with psychiatric and nursing and related services in the Psychiatric Health Services Department. This includes assisting consumers with the personal health record, performing consumer vitals and conducting a brief patient history and assessment prior to medication reviews and psychiatric evaluations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical education program and certification as a Medical Assistant in the state of Michigan required.
  • Minimum of one year of job-related experience required.
  • Ability to work in a complex, detail-oriented, deadline structured busy organization.
  • The following physical and mental abilities are required: frequent lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds, must be able to hear, frequent standing/walking going up and down stairs due to community outreach basis, ability to communicate effectively in person and/or phone, the ability to read, analyze and interpret information, ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures, ability to maintain consumer charts/records, ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, ability to influence others, and the ability to conduct patient assessments and treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical assistant methods and practices, common medical terminology, medical law and ethics training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Office, electronic medical records (CRCT) and such other applications if/when required.
  • Ability to be trained and successfully complete other computer training as required.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance and driving record determined by the Authority’s insurance carrier to be eligible for coverage if required as part of positions duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with consumers have a mental illness or developmental disability and knowledge of psychotropic medications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services as needed to include all vital signs, height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, temperature, etc.
  • Gathers data for Medication Review: Vital Signs, BMI, Pregnancy/lactation, laboratory results, PHR, and medication reconciliation for all medications not prescribed at MCMHA.
  • Assist psychiatrist with health care coordination activities and prepping medication consents and diagnostic testing forms as needed.
  • Coordinates with pharmacy for prescriptions.
  • Assists the RN in Coordinating lab requests and results with Psychiatrists
  • Assists the RN in maintaining the sample medications according to department protocol.
  • Assists with the secure storage of individual injectable medications and appropriate disposal of medical waste in accordance with Agency procedures.
  • Assists with the clean-up of minor body fluid or hazardous waste spills as appropriate.
  • Completes requisite clinical documentation, including progress notes and sample medication forms in accordance with required deadlines and guidelines
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Maintains individual credentials and participates in education and training necessary to maintain current competency(s) in skill areas essential for implementing job duties and responsibilities.
  • Enhances agency staff’s understanding of management services and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Follows oral and written direction completing tasks as assigned by due dates.
  • Maintains working knowledge of software applications used in performance of daily duties.
  • Complies with and maintains competence with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and rules governed under Medicare, Medicaid, the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), Michigan Department of Human Services (MDHS), Joint Commission, and any applicable funding sources.
  • Understands, adheres and maintains competence with all MCMHA and CMHPSM standards, policies, procedures as they appear in MCMHA’s, Management of Information, Finance-Contract Management, Recipient Rights, Performance Improvement, Administration, Human Resources, Treatment Foster Care, Environment and Provision of Care Policies.
  • Complies with and maintains competence with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations as they pertain to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Interacts appropriately with Managers and peers.
  • Performs required duties with an awareness of impact upon the Authority structure as a whole.
  • Works as a Team Player within the entire Authority Structure.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and MCMHA regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
