About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advocate Health is a full-time role that requires adherence to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. The role involves performing rooming and visit tasks such as taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The Medical Assistant will assist providers with procedures, perform lab-related duties, and administer medications and vaccines safely. Other responsibilities include maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring equipment and supplies are in working order, and demonstrating effective communication and teamwork.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification needs to be obtained within 45 days unless exempted.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas.
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
  • Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling.
  • Cross trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
