Requirements

  • Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) by the Florida Certification Board or eligible to obtain Peer Specialist certification, preferred.
  • Lived experience as an adult in recovery and have been actively maintaining a wellness and recovery lifestyle from a mental health and/or substance use condition for at least two years, preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of training methods and techniques and experience as a teacher, training instructor, or similar role with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Valid local driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record.
  • Ability to pass a Level 2 background check in the state of Florida.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience in education, substance use disorder, mental health, criminal justice or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with correctional facility staff, mental health professionals, substance use treatment program professionals, and community partners to design and deliver recovery-oriented training programs.
  • Developing curriculum modules that address the unique challenges faced by incarcerated individuals.
  • Conducting training sessions for CRPS Training Instructors working within correctional settings.
  • Fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Providing ongoing supervision and mentorship to peer specialists.
  • Assisting in identifying and addressing any barriers to effective peer support.
  • Establishing partnerships with other correctional facilities, community organizations, and reentry programs.
  • Supervising CRPS Training Instructors by monitoring and observing training sessions.
  • Monitoring program outcomes and assessing the impact of peer support interventions.
  • Ensuring adherence to FCB guidelines and ethical standards.
  • Advocating for integration of peer support services and promoting recovery-oriented practices within the correctional environment.
