About The Position

Certified Professional Coder provides quality review and analysis of a wide range of patient medical records, ensures accuracy of coding, and maintains records in accordance with accepted medical and legal standards. Responsible for reviewing medical records to ensure proper billing of the medical record, comparison of the physician-chosen CPT and ICD-10 codes to the physician's documentation to substantiate the level of coding, and complete review of medical records to accurately optimize all professional services documented for billing.

Requirements

CPC, CCS, RHIT preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical insurance, and medical practice services and routines
Previous experience in EMR, Athena preferred
Coding experience of three years or more

Responsibilities

Verifies patient demographic data for accuracy and completeness
Performs audit of services on a daily basis for accuracy
Evaluates designated medical records to identify diagnoses, operations and procedures, and accurately assigns and sequences ICD-10 and/or CPT codes
Reviews the accuracy and consistency of medical record documentation and brings any inconsistencies to the attention of the appropriate individual
Achieves and meets expectation rating on coding audits
Sequence codes appropriately for accurate billing
Communicates effectively with SPG workforce about coding issues, and resolves any discrepancies in accordance with applicable guidelines
Assists with responding to audits and/or data requests as necessary
Assists with Revenue Cycle Manager and/or Supervisor to resolve coding edits as needed
Keeps current in area of expertise and assures that standards and practices within the site reflect best practice in coding
Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned
