About The Position

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician Lab Assistant II is responsible for collecting blood specimens and processing them for laboratory testing. This role involves interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds and handling various laboratory tasks. The technician will receive, sort, and accession specimens, ensuring they are assigned to the appropriate workflow. Additionally, the position requires completing computerized tasks related to patient registration, test order entry, and specimen processing. The technician will also perform post-analytic tasks, maintain a clean work area, and adhere to regulations to ensure patient safety and privacy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or CPT II-Certified Phlebotomy Technician II.
  • 1 year of recent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing principles and procedures.
  • Ability to interact compassionately with patients.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to respond to fluctuations in volume and unexpected situations.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood specimens and process them for laboratory testing.
  • Interact with patients of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Receive, sort, and accession specimens for testing.
  • Complete computerized tasks related to patient registration and test order entry.
  • Perform basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports and storing specimens.
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area.
  • Monitor pending work and escalate priority tasks as needed.
  • Operate basic pre-analytic lab equipment.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding patient care.
