About The Position

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician Lab Assistant II is responsible for collecting blood specimens, as well as receiving, handling, and processing specimens for laboratory testing. This role involves interacting with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors. The technician will receive, sort, and accession specimens, assigning them to the appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflow. Additionally, the position includes completing computerized tasks related to patient registration and/or test order entry, specimen collection, receiving, and processing. Basic post-analytic tasks such as distributing reports, storing and/or retrieving specimens, and completing quality-related tasks are also part of the job. The technician will operate and/or use basic pre-analytic lab equipment and adhere to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or CPT II-Certified Phlebotomy Technician II.
  • 1 year of recent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of standard principles and procedures related to laboratory testing and specimen handling.
  • Ability to accurately perform job duties and prioritize tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respond to unexpected situations.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood specimens and process laboratory specimens.
  • Interact compassionately and effectively with patients.
  • Receive, sort, and accession specimens for testing.
  • Complete computerized tasks related to patient registration and test order entry.
  • Perform basic post-analytic tasks including report distribution and specimen storage.
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work area.
  • Monitor pending work and escalate priority tasks as needed.
  • Operate basic pre-analytic lab equipment.
  • Adhere to regulations and policies to ensure patient privacy and safety.
