About The Position

At NorthBay Health, the CPT/MAI act as both a CPT and a Medical Assistant, based on the needs in the department. The CPT/MAI collects and prepares lab samples for transport to reference laboratories. Registers patients and enters requisition into electronic medical record. They will facilitate the flow of information into and out of the lab by interacting with the public, using computer systems, delivering reports and answering phones and processes mail. They are responsible for providing direct patient care in support of a provider in an ambulatory care setting under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. They may administer medications upon completion of medication administration course and specific supervision of a physician. Based on business need, may be assignment to other areas. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program with a certificate
  • Program or additional classwork regarding medication administration required
  • A Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) certificate or higher Laboratory license (MLT/CLS) issued by the state of California
  • Current AHA or equivalent certification in BLS
  • Medical Assistant state or national certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Program or additional classwork regarding medication administration required within 6 months of hire
  • Medical Administration competency complete required within 6 months of hire
  • Phlebotomy, basic medical terminology, typing, math and computer skills
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal
  • Demonstrated effective time-management skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • One year of acute care hospital experience or ambulatory care setting preferred
  • One year of phlebotomy experience highly preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
