About The Position

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I will perform blood collection activities in accordance with Saddleback Medical Center Laboratory Services department standards and procedures. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I will perform pre-analytic, post-analytic and data management under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory supervisor or other appropriately California licensed personnel. The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I will demonstrate the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year experience performing venipuncture preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in the clinical laboratory and acute care setting preferred.
• Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, equipment and specimen handling required.
• Knowledge of current information system preferred.
• One (1) year experience in specimen processing preferred.
• High School graduate or equivalent preferred .
• Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician in the state of California.
• Current AHA BLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and finger stick specimen collection activities according to laboratory protocol.
• Follows laboratory protocol to ensure proper identification of patients and specimens.
• Performs pre-analysis and post-analysis of laboratory orders according to department protocols and procedures.
• Evaluates quality control and assurance requirements where applicable.
• Provides quality laboratory service to clients, patients, physicians and peers.
• Ability to meet department scheduling and attendance requirements.
• Requires effective communication, verbally, in writing and through other means.
• Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures.
• Attends and actively participates in department specific education, training, in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
• Participates in performance improvement projects in the laboratory.
• Ensures equipment and safety devices are used as intended and designed.
• Ensures compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.
• Performs data management and documentation activities.
• Ability to be at work and be on time.
• Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
• Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask.
