The Certified Phlebotomy Technician at Baptist Easley Lab is responsible for collecting specimens from patients while ensuring their safety and comfort. The role involves accessing samples into the computer system for accurate testing and billing, obtaining necessary signed documents, and performing Point of Care testing and sample processing as assigned.   • Collect specimens from patients and ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Accession samples into the computer system for accurate testing and billing.
  • Verify identification of patient and specimen, and label specimens correctly.
  • Input and assess information via hospital and laboratory computer systems.
  • Instruct patients on preparation or collection for tests ordered.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Follow safety procedures and respond to safety violations.
  • Process specimens for testing, including identifying, sorting, and labeling.
  • Restock items in use and maintain a clean work area.
  • Communicate with patients and guests courteously.
  • Perform account registrations and order tests in laboratory systems.
  • Perform Point of Care testing accurately if assigned.
  • Instruct new employees and students in procedures and techniques.
  • High School diploma or equivalent or post-high school diploma.
  • Completion of a three-month phlebotomy certificate program.
  • Required certifications such as PBT(ASCP), RPT(AMT), CPT(ASPT), and others.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience or training in formal programs.
  • Knowledge of general phlebotomy equipment.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and data entry skills.
