About The Position

We are seeking a Certified Phlebotomist / Patient Service Technician to provide high-quality patient care through the collection, processing, and handling of laboratory specimens. This role serves as front-line support for laboratory services and requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work across multiple collection sites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful completion of a basic phlebotomy program (classroom and practical hours) or work experience where phlebotomy is a primary function
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License upon hire
  • Acceptable driving record per Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) criteria
  • Completion of required driver safety training upon hire and every two years thereafter
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology assessment
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and keyboarding, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collect laboratory specimens in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Deliver excellent customer service as a primary point of contact for patients and clients
  • Communicate professionally and confidentially with patients, providers, and staff
  • Perform venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks on ambulatory and bedridden patients
  • Obtain throat culture swabs and provide verbal instructions for home specimen collection (e.g., stool samples, 24-hour urine collections)
  • Process specimens according to testing methodology, including centrifuging samples, separating serum or plasma, and maintaining proper temperature controls
  • Accurately register patient demographic information in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Ensure complete and accurate data entry for proper billing and compliance
  • Enter laboratory orders accurately under the correct patient accounts
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Medicare medical necessity requirements, and phlebotomy regulations
  • Rotate between multiple laboratory collection sites (minimum of three locations)
  • Open and close assigned collection sites as scheduled
  • Communicate with healthcare providers regarding specimen identity, patient information, diagnoses, and test results
  • Identify and troubleshoot specimen issues, escalating concerns to leadership when necessary
  • Perform occasional STAT draws at nursing homes, patient homes, or physician offices as assigned
  • Participate in on-call rotation per contract requirements
  • Maintain inventory and fill supply orders for clients and collection sites
  • Keep phlebotomy areas clean, safe, and well-stocked, including daily maintenance of drawing rooms
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and support teams, performing additional duties as assigned
  • Consistently demonstrate service excellence to patients, families, visitors, and coworkers
