About The Position

The Compounding Pharmacy Technician is responsible for creating compounded medications, receiving medication orders, measuring quantities of mixing ingredients and packaging medication. Specialty Veterinary Pharmacy (SVPMEDS) team members focus in four essential areas known as C.A.T.S.: Compliance, Affordability, Turnaround, and Service. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Texas Registered Pharmacy Technician license
  • PTCB Certification
  • Computer skills required: Human Resource Systems; Inventory Software; Microsoft Office Suite; Payroll Systems
  • Technicians must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuing education (CE) during each two (2) year re-certification cycle
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, following specific instructions or procedures
  • A disciplined mindset, with great attention to detail, and a near-obsession with accuracy and precision, especially with regard to measuring, pouring and mixing
  • Team player mentality
  • Good basic math skills

Responsibilities

  • Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
  • Take prescription orders via the phone, fax, email or online.
  • Type prescription labels and prepare prescription logs in accordance with the most up to date standard operating procedures.
  • Provide customer service via telephone or in person and provide customers with information about products or services, take or enter orders, cancel accounts, or obtain details of complaints; troubleshoot and handle customer service issues.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for prescriptions and documents.
  • Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items, tracking shipments, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
  • Price and print prescriptions that have been filled.
  • Establish or maintain customer and patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.
  • Create pharmaceutical compounding logs, according to written prescriptions.
  • Determine charges for services requested, collect payments over the phone or online, or arrange for billing.
  • Compute charges for medication or equipment dispensed to veterinary patients and enter data in the computer.
  • Assist in the daily workflow to maximize prescription output and meet goals.
  • Clean and help maintain equipment or work areas clean, neat, and organized.
  • All other duties as assigned.
