About The Position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician at Boston Medical Center (BMC) plays a crucial role in preparing and distributing medications, operating pharmacy technology systems, and maintaining inventory. This part-time position emphasizes exceptional patient care and supports the pharmacy team in delivering equitable healthcare services. The technician will also assist in training new staff and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date.
  • National certification from Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT) required, or must obtain within 6 months from start date.
  • 2 years of work experience preferred, or pharmacy students who have completed 2 years of education in an approved college/school of pharmacy are eligible for pharmacy internship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data entry tasks such as prescription transcription and entry, resolving third-party insurance claim issues, and contacting providers as appropriate while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare prescription orders in a timely manner by retrieving, counting, measuring, and preparing medications, solutions, ointments, and other compounds as directed.
  • Ensure all work is checked by a pharmacist to maintain safety and accuracy.
  • Support the service needs of the pharmacist to maximize patient care outcomes, ensuring prescriptions are dispensed correctly and professionally at the point-of-sale.
  • Communicate with pharmacists and/or pharmacy technician supervisors regarding malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions.
  • Attend and participate in hospital and management training and development workshops.
