Prepares and dispenses medications (under the supervision of a pharmacist), including sterile, and parenteral nutrition preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques. Distributes controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law. Participates in the quality improvement and medication-use review activities of the department. Collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; and maintains logs, records, and other documentation as assigned. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. Completes monthly inspection of nursing units and pharmacy areas. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. Answers requests at the window. Receiving, Dispensing, Reconciling Narcotics Preparing chemotherapy agents Profiling TPN orders in the TPN computer for RPh verification Obtain patient data from PCI for assigned clinical pharmacy monitoring sheets Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well-organized.   • Prior pharmacy technician experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • successful completion and renewal of the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam
  • registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
  • Training in hospital pharmacy and IV admixture 2 3
  • advanced training in sciences and/or math and/or Pharmacy Technician training course
