About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained and maintained including required continuing education credits.

Responsibilities

• Communicates daily with nursing staff, physicians, and other UPMC personnel.
• Travels between facilities as needed to support pharmacy operations.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment.
• Completes required documentation (e.g., medication credits, charge forms, logs).
• Assists in training staff and pharmacy students.
• Restocks and manages automated dispensing cabinets.
• Operates pharmacy equipment (e.g., pneumatic tube, fax, printers, computers).
• Inspects and removes expired/recalled medications from all assigned areas.
• Fills, delivers, and documents interdepartmental medication orders.
• Provides customer service via phone, in-person, and pneumatic tube system.
• Handles controlled substances per protocol.
• Repackages medications and prepares non-sterile compounds with documentation.
• Prepares sterile products (e.g., IV admixtures, chemotherapy) using aseptic technique.
• Labels and delivers medications, ensuring pharmacist review before dispensing.
