Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Employment experience required:
  • Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained and maintained including required continuing education credits.
  • Act 34

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital personnel to support patient care.
  • Travel between UPMC Pinnacle facilities as needed to complete pharmacy activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment, including restocking, cleaning, and medication management.
  • Prepare, label, and dispense medications, including non-sterile compounds, IV admixtures, and specialty products under pharmacist supervision.
  • Fill and manage automated dispensing cabinets, interdepartmental orders, and medication deliveries.
  • Inspect and remove expired or recalled medications, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Assist in training staff and pharmacy students on procedures and best practices.
  • Operate pharmacy equipment effectively, including pneumatic tubes, computers, and automated dispensing systems.
  • Adhere to proper handling procedures for controlled substances and ensure accuracy in documentation.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives and promote UPMC Pinnacle's mission, vision, and values.
