About The Position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric. Under minimal supervision, this role performs the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area. This position also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period. Requirements

  • Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR valid ExCPT certification provided by the National Health Career Association
  • Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy
  • Clean criminal record (i.e. no felony conviction; no drug or pharmacy related convictions, including misdemeanors; no denial, suspension, revocation, or restriction of registration or licensure by any State Board of Pharmacy)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.

Nice To Haves

  • One year previous pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting
  • Previous experience using a standard keyboard and typing speed of 20-30 words per minute

Responsibilities

  • Aid pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric age groups.
  • Perform the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area.
  • Learn, perform and complete assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.
  • Perform tasks designated by the pharmacist to assist in patient care that do not legally require a pharmacist’s supervision or verification.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members.
  • Identify equipment or operational problems and bring them to the attention of a pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
  • Interact with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.
