Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Employment experience required:-
  • Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained and maintained including required continuing education credits.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with nursing staff, physicians, and hospital personnel across UPMC Pinnacle.
  • Travel between UPMC Pinnacle facilities (as mutually agreed) to support pharmacy operations.
  • Support departmental Performance Improvement initiatives and promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of UPMC Pinnacle.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pharmacy (restocking, cleaning workstations, returning medications to stock).
  • Complete required documentation, including medication credits, charge forms, logs, and controlled substance records.
  • Fill, inspect, and restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets; remove expired or recalled medications.
  • Prepare, label, repackage, and distribute medications (including non-sterile compounds and sterile IV admixtures) under pharmacist supervision.
  • Assist with specialty and sterile product preparation (e.g., chemotherapy, epidurals) once trained, using proper aseptic technique.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and process interdepartmental orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide customer service support by answering phones, monitoring pneumatic tube systems, and assisting with training of staff and students.
